La importancia de los tejidos para Maria Malo
THE IMPORTANCE OF FABRICS FOR MARIA MALO
When I consider fabrics for my collection I am very aware that fashion needs to always go hand in hand with ethical sustainability.
My aim is to create long lasting designs that are Environmentally conscious and Skin friendly .
All fabrics in my collection are eco friendly, comfortable, breathable and even hypoallergenic;
TENCEL® Natural and Organic; Cotton, Bamboo, Rayon Lyocell and Silk are used.
Just like food, if your clothing are made from non-organic cotton or synthetics, they may contain a whole range of harmful chemicals. These are retained in the fibers - from both the farming and manufacturing processes.
It may cost less to manufacture with non organic fabrics, but it’s better for the land, the farm workers and your well-being to choose organic whenever possible.
Bamboo fabric is so soft that is compared to the feeling of silk.
It is naturally wicking - it pulls moisture away from the body. It allows for the evaporation of perspiration with ease and also drys quickly. It has natural thermal characteristics that allows your skin to breath in hot climates, and retains warmth in cool climates .
As a natural fiber, bamboo fabric has antibacterial qualities which makes it perfect for people with sensitive skin or allergies. thanks to this anti-bacterial quality, bamboo fabric stay fresh longer. Bamboo fabrics are anti-funga,l and 100% biodegradable.
Bamboo is the fastest growing tree in the world and thrives in steep mountainous areas difficult for other plant life... no pesticides or fertilizers of any kind are needed, utilising only natural rainwater, making Bamboo the Ultimate Sustainable fabric above all others.
Rayon fabric is a moisture absorbent fibre which allows it to breath. So it will not cling to the skin or build up static.
Rayon is soft and comfortable to wear, and drapes similar to silk. It was first known as a natural alternative for silk.
Easy to dye in many different colors, Rayon is very versatile in addition to its ability to blend well with other fabric.
It is produced from renewable cellulosic plants such as beech trees eucalyptus, pine trees, and bamboo. All three fibers are biodegradable
What you need to know,
Even with the advancements that have been made, most rayon manufacturing processes in use today are not considered environmentally friendly.
In fact, they use a range of polluting chemicals and heavy metals,
such rayons are often labelled as rayon viscose.
lyocell manufacturing, is an extremely environmentally friendly process.
Much of the total environmental impact of textile goods comes from their care. With lyocell fabrics, there is no need for fabric softener or whitening agents, energy and water use can be decreased due to shorter washing machine cycles.
A quick, cool hand wash or machine gentle cycle with respect for the fabric will ensure long lasting quality wear.
I intend to improve environmental awareness with every Maria Malo collection and be always transparent in the process.
In addition to seeking eco-friendly fabrics, at the same time, we need fabrics that have performance characteristics to which we are accustomed. Especially in bikinis and tight clothes, which need a certain elasticity. The only thread that can provide this type of stretching are made of polyurethane. Thats why we have agreed to have a small percentage of spandex in our Activewear collection, because in effect it improves the garment and its durability. That will ensure long lasting, performance enduring, quality garments.
For our SWIMWEAR collection, we have chosen to work together with ECONYL®
ECONYL® is 100% regenerated nylon fibre from fishnets and other nylon waste.
Working with ECONYL® turning waste problems into swimwear solutions.
