New Beginnings In Relating & Striving For Balance

This cycle presents a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Scales. We have a chance to build our negotiating skills without compromising our principles or needs, and without resorting to appeasement. It’s a time to work on re-balancing our relationships, and to recognize our partners as teammates rather than adversaries. With this potent Libra energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.

Libra is the sign of relating and its energy is very much consistently oriented around the consideration of others. It strives for what is fair and harmonious. Under the rulership of Venus, Libra is also associated with beauty and creativity.

With Uranus in an opposition to this New Moon, this implies that the new beginnings in relationships and co-dependencies will take into consideration a new awareness and/or changes that have occurred either last month and/or this upcoming month.  For some people it could be about working within the constructs and finding a new sense of individual freedom within relationships.  For others, it could manifest into finalizing a breakup or separation that has been developing since the beginning of summer.

Some of Libra’s “lessons” involve learning to make peace with those around us, as well as in our environments, establishing a sense of order and balance in our lives, and recognizing the value of partnerships. This is an ideal time to work on these skills. Libra has an innate ability for, and love of, synthesizing opposites. Peace and harmony are the goals, but there’s a fine balancing act involved along the way that requires some commitment and effort.

Venus is the ruler of this New Moon. It has just finished its post retrograde phase and is also positioned in a way that demonstrates new beginnings. This applies to our values, relationships, and in some cases, it can apply financially as well. In Virgo, Venus is less playful and fun-loving (compared to other signs), and more focused on what we devote ourselves to.

Venus is in Virgo from October 8-November 8. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just “being there” for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers’ reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues. As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

This moon cycle is very much about moving forward in new ways around relationships, our devotions, values, and how we assert ourselves in a way that is fair and equal. However there is also a need to consider what is in your best interest as an individual and finding that balance between this and the consideration of others.

This is a good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to get real results in the future. We tend to have a clear frame of mind and more patience and common sense. It’s also a good time to communicate with those in authority, and to be taken seriously in general.

Are you able to find that middle ground in your relationships and/or other areas of life? Do you need to assert yourself in a way that is more fair and equal? Do you need to liberate yourself from self-sacrificing situations where fairness, equality, and/or harmony is unattainable?  During this New Moon, our intentions should be based around these Libra themes.

As the lunar month unfolds, allow the required process to take place to help you with these intentions, and ultimately, whatever is in the best interests of your personal development.

Con amor,

María Malo
