The summer season is nearly upon us, and that can only mean one thing, as far as brands like us are concerned: it’s swimwear season

Our collection of sustainable swimwear has grown by a fair few members this year; some of the new items are our classic cuts reimagined in new colours and prints, while others are totally new designs altogether.

If you’re in the market for some environmentally friendly bikinis, one-pieces, or surf suits, look no further. We’ve put together this article to give you a bird’s eye view of the newcomers (and remind you of some of our favourites from the archives).

Read about some of our favourite sustainable swimwear designs from the past here.

As always, our eco-friendly swimwear is made with fabrics that are low impact, recycled, and kind to the earth - like the revolutionary econyl (which is similar to nylon, but made with discarded ocean waste like ghost fishing nets and plastic bottles).

Without further ado, here’s a rundown of our favourites for this year:

Maria Malo’s New Sustainable Swimwear Designs

Lita One Piece

Who doesn’t get a little drooly over a good one piece? Lita is all about elegant form and strategic, sexy cutouts. It offers medium bum coverage, adjustable straps for extra support, and cute peep-holes on the front. Wear it as-is for time in the water or on the sand, or pair it with your favorite skirt or jeans for a daytime look.

Lakey’s Surf Suit

An elegant take on a classic piece, the Lakey’s surf suit is both simple in its design and flattering in its cut. It’s a practical piece; an essential for any active water woman, whether a surfer, kiter, wild swimmer, or SUPer.

Featuring a fine border with a colour accent, the long sleeve design keeps you sheltered from harmful UV rays while you’re out on the water. It offers medium coverage on the bottom, so you can comfortably tan your legs without showing too much booty. It also has a handy long pulley to help you out with the back zip.

As much as we adore how this suit looks and acts on the water, we’re also pretty bananas about how easily you can take it to land with a pair of cut off shorts or jeans slung on over the top.

Made with sustainable econyl, Lakey’s surf suit is available in the gorgeous earthy tobacco shade , Black and white.

But that’s not all. Surfers and sun lovers, stay with us for this next one.

Lakey’s Surf Suit Hoodie

We’ve also brought out a hoodie version of this eco surf suit, which is basically THE BEST NEWS EVER for gals who like to surf in the midday sun. The hoodie serves to protect both your skin, eyes, and hair from harsh UV rays, whilst still giving you the function and freedom to do the sport you love most. The thoughtful design also allows water to drain easily from the suit, instead of getting stuck and weighing you down.

Grab the Lakey’s surf suit hoodie in white, black, or the tasty umber shade we call gaza.

Thong Bottoms in Palm Tree Print

These skimpy faves of ours have already made an appearance in a previous collection update in sexy leopard print, and now you can also score our thong bottoms in palm tree print.

It’s a daring cut, with minimal bum coverage and 2 statement straps on either side. The regenerated econyl fabric is double reinforced, though, which means the bottoms feel secure even though they’re fairly far up on the skimpy meter.

The palm tree print is super special to us; it’s part of our collaboration with the inspired Andy Wauman of Gutterdust, a photographer who creates soft, surreal imagery using double and triple exposures. The palm tree print which you see aaaaaaall over our new collection is part of his new project ‘Tropicalitation’, which is a study of palm trees using analogue film.

Triangle Top in Palm Tree & Leopard Print

The iconic new print makes its second appearance in the 2022 sustainable swimwear update with the triangle top in palm tree and leopard print. These tops are ideal for long days tanning by the pool, thanks to their minimal coverage and adjustable ties at the neck and back. Tan lines? Be gone!

Bermudas Top & Bottoms in 3 New Colours

The Bermudas top has long been one of our go-to eco bikini designs (we wrote about it extensively in our last sustainable swimwear roundup article), so we’re stoked to be bringing it to life in three new colours: the trippy palm tree print described above, a rich golden shade called Infidele, and the deep pine colour we call Nappa.

The Bermudas Bottoms family have expanded by the same 3 prints - hooray! Check out the Bermudas bottoms in Nappa, Infidele, and Palm Tree.

Culotte Bottoms New Colours

Much like the Bermudas gang, the culotte bikini bottoms you know and love are also now available in Nappa, Infidele, and Leopard for good measure. We’re pretty crazy about these bottoms for their flattering high waist, environmental friendly econyl fabric, and ever so cheeky cut.

Mini Crop Top in 2 New Prints and all new colors.

You’ve seen our mini crop top before in classic solid shades, but this season it’s back with a bang in our new shade Infidele as well as Leopard. This bikini top is right up your street if you seek a balance between sex appeal and security in the boob department. It offers medium coverage, while the double reinforced band around the ribcage holds everything where it’s supposed to be. The adjustable straps are a big bonus, too.

Halter Top

We’re just darn delighted to introduce the newest design of our eco bikini line, the halter top. With a full coverage cut, double reinforced fabric, and ultra durable econyl, this top is ideal for surfers and those spending super actives hours in the sun and water. Econyl fabric is crush, soil, UV and sweat resistant too, so you can count on this top - like all the eco swimwear in this article - lasting you a long long time.

Snag the halter top in leopard print or Nappa.

As always, thank you for supporting sustainable swimwear and choosing to tread lightly on the earth. Check out our full collection of swimwear for more designs.
