Organic bamboo underwear

Organic bamboo underwear is everything I never knew I needed.

Readers of our blog will know that organic bamboo is one of our absolute favourite materials to use (and wear).

Why?

First and foremost, because it’s sustainable.

From the get-go, Maria Malo opted to use only the fabrics we knew would be kinder to the earth than traditional fast fashion materials -- so that meant no commercial cotton, no icky synthetic nylon, and definitely no animal products.

Instead, we crafted a collection made from recycled and fast-regenerating materials like econyl, eucalyptus, TENCEL rayon, and of course organic bamboo.

But it’s not just bamboo’s eco-friendly factor that’s got us gushing; it’s also insanely comfortable, kind to the skin, and antimicrobial too.

In addition to our full range of organic bamboo yoga clothing and our layerable bamboo Ts and tops, we’ve also launched a collection of organic bamboo underwear which is absolutely rocking our socks off -- if we do say so ourselves.

In this article, we’ll dive into exactly why we think bamboo underwear is the way forward in terms of the environment and our wardrobes for all you anti-fast fashionistas.

Let’s get started:

Why organic bamboo underwear?

The sustainability aspect is all well and good -- but what about functionality?

When bamboo is transformed from its raw form into fabric, it’s mechanically mushed down to a woody pulp, soaked, and spun into a fine yarn. When woven into fabric form, the texture is super soft -- similar to rayon -- and feels great when you wear it.

Not only is bamboo fabric really fine to the touch, it’s also antimicrobial -- meaning it squashes bacteria and prevents it from building up and smelling. Bamboo is also breathable, moisture wicking, and kind to sensitive skin, making it the ideal fabric for underwear.

Some bamboozling facts about bamboo (and how we use it)

One of the most exciting things about creating a collection of bamboo underwear is how easy it is to do so sustainably.

Unlike many plants used in the production of modern clothing, bamboo is extremely fast growing (it’s actually one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Can you believe that there’s a certain species of bamboo that grows up to 91/cm per DAY?! It’s a Guinness World Record!).

So when we harvest bamboo to use in production, it’s able to regenerate and regrow at a phenomenal rate -- and therefore maintain its role in the ecosystem.

However, in order to truly maintain the delicate balance of any ecosystem -- even one as resilient as a bamboo forest -- we must also make sure that harvesting is done mindfully. Steam rolling in, no holds barred, is a surefire way to end up depleting the wonderful resources available to us. With this in mind, we always make sure that we work with producers and farmers who conduct sustainable harvests every time.

There’s one more thing about bamboo that we think is so incredible:

The fact that the plant has the ability to transform arid, infertile soil into good soil.

What exactly does that mean?

It means land that previously couldn’t be used to grow things on can finally begin to support life. It means more room for agriculture on once unviable land -- which means less need to bulldoze primary forests to make space for farms. It means more space to plant carbon sucking trees and flora. It means cleaner air for all.

Our range of organic bamboo underwear + intimates

High waisted knickers

For those of you on the hunt for the ultimate pair of comfy knickers, these high waisted beauties are exactly what you’ve always dreamed of. The retro inspired cut is flattering -- form hugging without being clingy. And we love how the cut still hints at femininity and sexiness whilst giving full coverage.

These babies pair perfectly with our open flowy dresses by day and -- if you’re like me -- can just as easily be worn lounging around the house on a hot summer’s day or as an alternative to pyjamas when you prefer to feel a little more free between the sheets.

Our high waisted organic bamboo underwear come in a stunning pink vintage floral, navy, green, red, black vintage floral, and leopard print. Check out our intimates collection to see the full range that we have in stock.

Brazilian seamless

As much as we love the high waisted bamboo underwear, sometimes it’s a smaller pair of panties that the outfit calls for. When you need something comfy to slip on -- that promises not to show up as an uninvited panty-line through your leggings -- our brazilian seamless bamboo underwear is a winner. The low rise, relaxed fit is comfortable, versatile, and promises to become a staple of any eco-conscious consumer’s wardrobe.

The brazilian bamboo underwear is available in black, sand, navy dots, white, vintage floral (black, pink, and turquoise), and leopard. Visit our intimates collection to see what we have now.

Mini crop top

With a plunging neckline and a thick band around the ribs, the mini crop top in our bamboo underwear range is ideal for ladies who can’t stand the feel of underwiring -- yet still look for something that supports them.

No pesky clips or pinchy wiring here; this bamboo bralette is all comfort -- and still looks cute. It’s available in black, sand, blue floral, navy, and leopard print -- all of which you can find in our intimates collection.

Crop Top

Body top

It can be a challenge to find organic bamboo underwear that provides enough support up top for bigger chested women, which is why we went about creating the bamboo body top.

One part sports bra one part crop top, this bamboo bra is outrageously comfortable and enjoyable to wear. Slip it on underneath an oversized T or pair it with some high waisted bamboo underwear and a flowy kimono for the ultimate boudoir look.

This mini cropped blouse pairs just as perfectly with our high waisted bamboo underwear around the house as it does with a pair of cut-off jeans and a kimono for festival season.
